Every great institution has a beginning, and for Kabundi Secondary School, that story started on 29th July 1974. On that historic day, the school officially opened its doors under the stewardship of the then Minister of Education, Mr. Fwanyanga Mulikita. The construction of the school was made possible through funding secured by the Government of Zambia from the World Bank, reflecting the nation's commitment to expanding access to quality education.

At the helm of this new institution stood Mr. Martin Lupeta, the school's pioneering Headteacher, who served from 1974 to 1977. Mr. Lupeta, who is currently 91 years old and still lives in Chingola, was tasked with transforming newly constructed buildings into a thriving centre of learning. He successfully laid the foundation upon which generations of students would build their futures.

The opening of Kabundi Secondary School was unique. Unlike many schools that begin with newly recruited pupils, Kabundi welcomed its first learners from established institutions such as Chikola Secondary School and Chingola Secondary School. These students became the trailblazers of a school whose influence would extend far beyond the classroom.

The early years were not without challenges. The teaching staff was small, and to bridge the gap the Government enlisted the services of expatriate teachers. Together with their Zambian counterparts, they nurtured academic excellence and helped establish the culture, discipline, and values that would come to define Kabundi Secondary School.

From those humble beginnings in 1974, Kabundi has grown into a respected institution that has produced leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs, public servants, and change-makers across Zambia and beyond. More than five decades later, the torch of leadership is carried by Mr. Felix Kahanji, the current Headteacher, who continues to build upon the rich heritage established by the school's founding generation.

As Kabundi Secondary School celebrates its Golden Jubilee, we honour the visionaries who dreamed, built, taught, and learned within its walls. Their dedication transformed a newly opened school into a lasting symbol of knowledge, service, and opportunity.

The administration of Kabundi Secondary School wishes to inform all pupils, parents, and guardians that the school will open early for administrative and registration preparations starting May 8, 2026, ahead of official Term 2 commencement on May 11, 2026.

This early reopening is designed to facilitate smooth fee reconciliation, textbook collection, and timetable alignment. All class teachers are requested to report to their respective rooms by 08:30 hours. Parents who wish to settle school fees or consult with the accounts office are encouraged to take advantage of these three early days to avoid opening-day queues.

Our recently concluded April Holiday Remedial Classes recorded an impressive 95% attendance rate among Grade 9 and Grade 12 candidate classes. Under the coordination of Senior Teacher John Kalunga, teachers worked tirelessly to cover key syllabi points in Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and English.

The administration commends both our dedicated staff and the hardworking pupils who participated. These holiday programs continue to prove essential in boosting final national examination pass rates and overall student motivation.
